OAS considers that the Maduro regime applies state terrorism and is corrupt “on a large scale”

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) published its annual report, which includes a chapter that exposes the political nature of the authoritarian regime headed by Nicolás Maduro.

This is a comprehensive work of 1208 folios that also reviews human rights in Cuba, Nicaragua, and the remaining countries of Latin America.

Under the institutional orbit of the OAS, the work of the IACHR exhibits the systematic human rights violations committed by the Caribbean dictatorship. Maduro appears in the center of the stage, and all the accusations against him are indexed in an infinite footnote at the end of the dossier.

The State's repression included practices of State terrorism aimed, especially, at instilling terror in the citizenry and silencing dissenting voices,” states the Commission's report.

And add: “Among the documented violations are: extrajudicial executions, short-term enforced disappearances, arbitrary detentions, torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, cancellation of passports, violent deaths, and countless violations of judicial guarantees and freedom of expression».

Regarding the electoral process, where Maduro and his political allies executed a historic fraud, the IACHR concludes:

-“Before, during, and after the presidential election of July 28 (2024), the regime implemented a coordinated repressive strategy, with three stages, to illegitimately perpetuate itself in power. Within the framework of this strategy, acts of state terrorism were carried out with the purpose of preventing the political participation of the opposition, hindering the development of a free, fair, competitive, and transparent electoral contest, and sowing terror among the citizenry“.

-“The political crisis and human rights in Venezuela is the result of the total co-optation of state institutions by a regime that seeks above all to remain illegitimately in power. The control of the institutions designed to promote and protect human rights and democracy, along with large-scale corruption for the collection of legal and illegal income, have been fundamental to guarantee the impunity of the security forces.”

-“In the pre-election period, the government not only used the state machinery to favor Nicolás Maduro's campaign, but also to obstruct and prevent the political participation of the opposition.”
