New York – Veteran communicator Miguel Cruz Tejada, who worked in media in both the Dominican Republic and the United States for more than four decades, passed away in New York City this Thursday.

His death occurred at the Presbyterian Hospital, where he was admitted due to health complications.

Cruz Tejada, originally from Moca, Espaillat province, had resided in New York for many years, where he left an indelible mark on the news coverage of the Dominican community in the diaspora.

Since March 2022, Cruz Tejada was part of the correspondent team of the newspaper De Último Minuto in the Big Apple.

His beginnings in the profession date back to the 80s at Radio Ideal and the newspaper La Información de Santiago. Later he emigrated to the United States, where he strengthened his professional career and founded his own digital media outlet, Diario Extra Info, from which he amplified the voices of Dominicans abroad.

In 2018, he underwent surgery for a congenital condition in his vocal cords, and although he managed to recover, his health deteriorated again in recent weeks, ultimately leading to his death.

New York City Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez lamented the loss and highlighted his legacy: “Today we say goodbye to a great journalist and human being. Miguel Cruz Tejada was an exemplary mocano who resided in our city for many years. We offer a prayer for his eternal rest.”
