Jet Set owners ignored noise complaints for years, according to MP

Santo Domingo.– For years, the Jet Set Club nightclub was the subject of multiple complaints for sonic contamination due to the high volume of the music, which affected the tranquility of the residents of the El Portal sector, in the National District. This is revealed by the request for a coercive measure presented by the Public Ministry against the owners of the nightclub, after the tragedy that occurred last month. According to the official document, the constant complaints motivated the carrying out of inspections, technical visits and environmental measurements, which concluded that the establishment was operating exceeding the noise limits established by the current environmental regulations for protection against noise. “This shows that there was a constant disrespect for the law on the part of the defendants”, the file indicates, which also highlights the direct responsibility of Maribel Espaillat, who is listed as co-owner of the nightclub and signed as a defendant in several of the legal proceedings related to these infractions.

The Public Ministry maintains that these actions demonstrate the level of control, knowledge, and participation that Maribel Espaillat had in the operation of Jet Set Club, personally representing the business in legal proceedings prior to the tragedy. The request also indicates that the building where the nightclub operated was intervened by the authorities since 1994, although no further details are offered in this fragment of the document. These revelations add to the list of irregularities pointed out by the accusing body, which seeks coercive measures against those responsible for the establishment, following the collapse of the roof that left several dead and injured.
