The prevention and monitoring strategies for the possible formation of storms and hurricanes were defined
Santo Domingo – Carolina Mejía activated and left the Prevention Committee, Mitigation and Response to Disasters of the National District in permanent session, during a meeting in which the measures to be taken were planned with a view to the beginning of the 2025 hurricane season.
The mayor of the National District convened the members of the committee to define the strategies that will be applied to preserve lives this season that covers from June 1st to November 30th.
“We are activating as the Committee for Prevention, Mitigation, and Response to Disasters in the National District for this 2025 hurricane season, I appreciate your participation in this meeting and we will be monitoring how it evolves, according to the information provided by Indomet,” Mejía said.

Representatives from the ministries of Public Health, Public Works, Environment, as well as the DN Fire Department, Civil Defense, 9-1-1 System, Digesett, Intrant, Dominican Red Cross, Municipal Police and Ciudad Alternativa participated in the meeting. Likewise, the directors and coordinators of the different departments of the city council attended.
During the meeting, each of these organizations explained how the surveys to identify the corresponding amount of supplies are progressing, which would be used in preventive actions at critical points with the work that will be carried out in a coordinated manner between all institutions to avoid loss of life and materials.
According to the representative of the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), Cristopher Florián, the forecast for the 2025 hurricane season includes a behavior "above normal", so more formations of natural phenomena are expected.
“Yes, it would be in July where there are more probabilities, but not as high as August and September, which are the months where the Dominican Republic has historically been affected by hurricanes,” the predictor detailed.
