Santiago, R.D. – The city of Santiago is preparing to make history with the making of the world's largest mofongo, a project that seeks to establish a new Guinness Record and position the Ciudad Corazón as the gastronomic epicenter of the Dominican Republic and the world. The event will officially take place on July 26th.
The initiative is headed by Eligio Reyes, general producer of the project and commercial director of SMA Group, who has already demonstrated his ability in this type of event by leading the record for the largest majarete in the world, held in Cotuí, Sánchez Ramírez province. On this occasion, Reyes seeks for Santiago to be recognized as the city of the next great culinary achievement internationally.

During the launch event, held at Amigos Restaurant, it was announced that more than 100 people will be involved in the preparation of the gigantic mofongo, which will be made in the same place. Local authorities and representatives of institutions such as FEDOCÁMARA, the Santiago Governorate, the City Council and the Ministry of Culture expressed their support for the event.
Félix Franco, head of Communications for the Santiago City Hall, highlighted the council's commitment to this initiative, assuring that it is part of the efforts to promote the economic, tourist, and cultural development of the city.
For her part, Clara Olivo, creator of the project “Santiago Inspira”, shared her vision of a vibrant, innovative city with the potential to project itself internationally through its gastronomic richness.
The project is supported by private companies and collaborators committed to elevating Dominican cultural identity and strengthening the image of Santiago on a global scale.
With this event, Santiago not only seeks to break a record, but also to leave an indelible mark on the history of 2025 as the capital of flavor, creativity, and community unity.
