Santo Domingo.– The journalist from De Último Minuto, Dalton Herrera was recognized as the winner in the Digital Media category of the World Vision Award for Journalism 2025, thanks to his report “The invisibility of orphans due to femicide”, published in De Último Minuto, on January 22.
Herrera thanked World Vision, the Evaluation Committee, and the De Último Minuto team, led by its director Héctor Romero, for giving him the opportunity to make visible an ignored reality, that of the children who are orphaned after a femicide.
“I thank World Vision, the Evaluation Committee, and Héctor Romero and the colleagues from De Último Minuto for giving me the opportunity to write and to capture realities that are sometimes made invisible by society itself, by the media itself, and by the State itself,” he expressed.
Herrera maintained that works like this motivate journalism professionals to continue delving into sensitive social issues, with the hope of raising awareness and provoking action from the authorities.
Dalton also shared the personal experience that marked his sensitivity and inspired him to work on it.
“Eight years ago I covered a femicide, a man killed his wife and committed suicide in front of his son. I remember that when they were collecting the body, an agent from the Inacif, without knowing anyone, broke down in tears as if it were a family member. That impacted me a lot,” he recounted, mentioning that he still remembers the victim's name, Mirelis.
