The decision, made by mutual agreement, marks the end of a stage that began in 2019 with Pérez at the head of the Dominican delegation. MLB expressed its gratitude to the outgoing professionals for their years of service and highlighted their commitment to the development of baseball in the region.
“The work done by Yerik Pérez and his team has been significant for our operations in the Dominican Republic. We wish them success in their future projects,” MLB indicated in an official statement.
Pérez, a lawyer by training and a specialist in sports law, held various positions within MLB since 2009. In his role as director, he led key initiatives on compliance, institutional development, and relations with academies and prospects, in the country that contributes the most talent to organized baseball in the United States.
“This stage concludes with satisfaction and gratitude. MLB has been a school and a family. “Now I prepare to take on new challenges always linked to sports,” Pérez expressed in a statement sent to the media.
The MLB office in Santo Domingo was established in the year 2000 and operates as a strategic link to ensure that the academies, leagues, and operations of the 30 Major League teams remain aligned with national and international regulations. The Dominican Summer League, administered from that headquarters, is one of the main showcases for young Latin talents.
With this transition, MLB reaffirms its commitment to transparency, compliance, and the strengthening of its programs in the region, with a view to a new stage in its relationship with the Dominican baseball community.
