"Luis was a beloved member of our organization and we are devastated by his tragic passing," Orioles general manager Mike Elias said in an official statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and teammates. We ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time." Originally from Tinaco, Venezuela, Guevara was signed by the Orioles as an international free agent in January 2023. He showed promising development in the Dominican Summer League (DSL) during the 2023 and 2024 campaigns. This year, he made the jump to American baseball, participating in 24 games with Class-A Delmarva, two in Double-A Chesapeake, and four recently in the Florida Complex League (FCL). As a sign of mourning, the organization postponed its FCL commitments scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. Luis Guevara leaves a legacy of effort, talent, and camaraderie that will be remembered with affection on and off the field. Rest in peace.
