Harper's return comes after an intense week of preparation that included batting cage sessions in Houston, practices on the field at Truist Park in Atlanta, and live matchups against minor league pitchers. After a rest on Sunday for treatment, the team waited until this Monday to make the final decision, just before starting a home stand against the Padres and Reds. Manager Rob Thomson was satisfied with the slugger's progress:Harper, two-time National League Most Valuable Player, represents a key piece in the Phillies' aspirations to stay at the top of the East Division."It was great. It seemed like he had bat speed and the timing looked good."
