According to the military statement, on May 26 they destroyed targets in Ukraine at the Starokostiantiniv airfield in the western region of Khmelnytskyi; several ammunition depots; an air defense command post; and a temporary deployment point for special operations troops of the Ukrainian Army in Odesa (Black Sea).
Despite the Russian ministry's insistence that the attacks are precise and "exclusively against military infrastructure", Ukrainians reported that day 37 residential buildings and three businesses were damaged in an attack with more than 100 drones only in the town of Starokostiantiniv.
On May 25, Russian bombings were mainly directed against facilities that may be related to the military industry, such as chemical plants, aircraft repair stations, telecommunications centers, electronic production, among others.
That same day, Ukraine reported one of the worst nights of enemy bombings in several weeks, which left at least 12 dead and 60 injured, despite the 266 drones and 45 missiles intercepted. Defense reported more targets hit during the last week, including other airfields in the Zhitomir, Kirovograd, and Zaporizhzhia regions; a Patriot anti-aircraft missile system in Kyiv; several foreign mercenary deployment centers; chemical plants; ammunition and drone depots, both aerial and maritime.According to the Russian side, these attacks are in response to those perpetrated by Ukraine during the first round of direct negotiations in Istanbul.
"In response to the massive Ukrainian drone attacks on several Russian regions, the Russian Army is exclusively attacking military and military-industrial infrastructure in Ukraine," it communicated via Telegram. Between May 20th and 27th, Russian air defenses have shot down a total of 2,331 Ukrainian drones, of which 1,465 were flying over Russian territory.
