Los Ángeles (EE.UU.), 27 jun (EFE).- Las autoridades de Nueva Orleans capturaron a Anthony Massey, uno de los diez reclusos que escaparon de una cárcel local el pasado 16 de mayo.
"The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office confirms that Anthony Massey, one of the last two individuals involved in the recent escape from the Orleans Justice Center, has been captured in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the Hollygrove area," reads the authorities' Facebook page.
Following Massey's arrest, the last remaining fugitive is Derrick Grove, who has been on the run for over a month.
Massey is facing recent charges for vehicle theft and strangulation in a domestic violence case, according to Orleans Parish records obtained by CNN.
The 33-year-old man already has a history of multiple escapes while in custody, such as one in 2007 when he escaped from a Louisiana state juvenile detention center.
Massey was captured this Friday at a rented property in the Hollygrove neighborhood of New Orleans, a few kilometers from the jail from which he and nine other men between the ages of 20 and 42 escaped at midnight on Friday, May 16.
The men exited the Justice Center through a hole behind a toilet. Three of them were captured shortly after and two more were subsequently arrested in separate operations.
In addition, a prison maintenance worker was also arrested and charged with complicity in facilitating the escape of the inmates.
The employee admitted to the authorities that one of the fugitives asked him to shut off the water supply to the cell from which the inmates escaped. Instead of reporting the prisoner, the worker followed his instructions, which allowed the escape.
The fugitives were serving sentences for murder and assault with a firearm and could be armed, Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams reported at the time, who warned that several members of his team "have already left the city" for fear of retaliation.
