Major General Then holds a degree in Police Sciences and Law, which provided him with a solid academic foundation for his career in the institution. He began his police career as a cadet aspirant in 1983, at the National Police Academy for Cadets, and was promoted to lieutenant in 1985.

He was also the director of the Escuela para Cadetes Mayor General José Félix Rafael Hermida González, where he participated in the training of new officers with an emphasis on discipline, professionalism, and a vocation for service.

His term was part of the comprehensive reform process of the National Police, driven by the Executive Branch.

Resignation and Appointment as Presidential Advisor

On November 8, 2023, Eduardo Alberto Then was placed in honorable retirement, upon ceasing his functions as general director of the National Police. In that same decree, he was appointed as advisor to the President of the Republic, in recognition of his career and experience in security and public administration.
