Santo Domingo.- The Spanish-language television network Univision, is in mourning after confirming this morning the news of the death of the New York correspondent of the program «Despierta América», Patricia Fuenmayor, after an intense battle against cancer.
Patricia, a journalist, former Miss Venezuela and television host, passed away early this Monday morning, as announced by the hosts of the program "Despierta América" on today's broadcast.
"The Despierta América family suffers a great loss because this morning our friend and colleague, Patricia Fuenmayor, passed away after a tough battle against cancer. A passionate, professional woman, always dedicated to her informative work. Thank you, Patricia, for your light, your dedication, and your smile. We will always remember you," expressed the visibly affected hosts of the show.
The charismatic presenter, considered by friends and family as a "life enthusiast," had resided in New York City for several years, and joined the Univision network as a presenter for its newscast.
In a fun interview given to the morning show "Despierta América", she narrated how her life was, her time in Miss Venezuela, her entry into Univision and the sad and bad experience that led her to leave Venezuela.

The kidnapping of her husband, the renowned plastic surgeon Jorge Safar, led them to make the difficult decision to leave their country and seek new horizons, with the United States being the place where they started from scratch.
Following her death, Patricia leaves two children orphaned, the result of her marriage to Jorge Safar.
Patricia: “My entry to Univision was thanks to a Dominican friend”
The deceased correspondent recounted in this emotional interview how she entered Univision, revealing that it took her a year of her life to be considered by the network.
This revealed that at the insistence of a Dominican friend, whose name she omitted, she went to a casting, however, they told her that her profile was not what they were looking for.
“I went to a casting at Univision in New York thanks to a Dominican friend, who insisted, on that occasion they didn't choose me, however, a year later they called me for a project and the rest is history,” said the Venezuelan.
