Latin artists with series, movies, and documentaries on Netflix

Santo Domingo.- Over time, the streaming and entertainment platform Netflix has released series, movies, and documentaries inspired by the lives of well-known Latin artists and personalities.

With this format in which the story behind the success is projected, from a more intimate and personal perspective, new generations have the opportunity to take a deeper look at the reality and the real history of preponderant figures of this generation and legendary personalities of past generations.

Below we share a list of series, movies, and documentaries, inspired by Latino figures and artists:

1- Selena the series
It is a series divided into two parts that tells the story of the queen of tex-mex, Selena and the Quintanilla family. This series in drama genre narrates the life of the deceased singer from the beginning of her dream of being an artist until she became the great star of Tejano music.

2- Luis Miguel, la serie
Luis Miguel “La serie”, is a series that tells the life of the renowned singer. It was released in 2021 and has 3 seasons, in it presents from the beginning of his career all the challenges he faced to become one of the most important artists in Latin America.

3- Paquita la del Barrio
It is the biographical series of 74 episodes inspired by the life of the iconic Mexican singer Paquita la del Barrio. It was released in 2017 and shows the humble origins, challenges and triumphs of the admired artist.

4- El Rey, Vicente Fernández
El Rey is a 36-episode series released in 2022, which delves into the life and prolific career of the iconic artist Vicente Fernández. This series reflects his humble origins, his beginnings in music, his daily life until the process of consolidation until becoming a pillar of Mexican music.

5- Nicky Jam “El ganador”
The legendary reggaeton artist Nicky Jam, released in 2018 a 16-chapter series based on his story where he shares his beginnings, his struggle to overcome drugs, and his path to international success.

6- Jennifer López: Halftime
Global superstar, actress, and businesswoman Jennifer Lopez shares in this intimate documentary, the entire process she went through leading up to her performance at the Super Bowl Halftime show. Released in 2022, JLO shares the pressure and stress of her life under the spotlight.

7- Rebelión- movie inspired by Joe Arroyo

Rebelión is a biographical film inspired by the life of the legendary Colombian singer-songwriter Joe Arroyo, considered one of the most important salsa singers in history.
The film was released in 2022 and has a duration of 1 hour and 42 minutes.

8- Chavela
It is a moving documentary inspired by the life of the legendary Mexican singer of Costa Rican origin Chavela Vargas, known as “the rough voice of tenderness”. It was released in 2017 and reflects, through accounts from people close to her and interviews with the singer, the darkest aspects of her life but at the same time her admirable and impressive story.

9- Gloria
It's an impressive biographical film inspired by the renowned singer Gloria Trevi. It was released in 2015 and reflects her beginnings, her successes, but also the devastating controversy involving her manager and that involved her in one of the biggest social scandals of the 90s.

10- La Guzmán
It is a biographical series of 59 episodes, which immerses you in the complex, extraordinary and at the same time turbulent life of the queen of Mexican rock, the singer Alejandra Guzmán. It was released in 2019 and after its premiere it managed to position itself in the top 10 of the streaming platform.

11- Diomedes: the idol, the mystery and the tragedy

This is the revealing documentary that recounts the life and career of the Colombian vallenato singer-songwriter and composer, Diomedes Díaz, it tells the testimonies of people close to the artist, his wealth, his success and the transcendence he had in this important and recognized musical genre. In turn, the documentary closely shows the tragedy and the stain that tarnished his career after being accused of the death of one of his fans.

12- Soy Georgina
It's a reality show that deals with the daily life of the businesswoman, mother and influencer Georgina Rodríguez, sentimental partner of the soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

From this, 3 seasons have been released and in an intimate portrait Georgina shares incredible moments of her public and professional life.

13- Anitta
The transcendental Brazilian artist and businesswoman, Anitta, is one of the few Latin artists with more than one production on Netflix, currently having projects on the streaming platform: a documentary, a series, and a film.

In 2018, she premiered a 6-episode series, named “Vai Anitta”, where she reflects on her evolutionary process from a close and familiar perspective.

In 2020 Anitta released the 6-episode documentary; “Anitta: From Honorio to the World”, where she reveals the challenges she has faced to achieve her position, in addition to the impressive life story she has behind her.

Recently, in early 2025, she released her documentary “Larissa: The Other Side of Anitta”, a feature film of 1 hour and 40 minutes that reveals her most intimate side, exploring her dual identity, the artistic and the personal.

14- Fito Páez: El amor después del amor
It is a series based on the life of the renowned Argentine singer Fito Páez, covering through 8 episodes, 30 years of the life of one of the most important stars of Latin American rock.
It was released in 2023 and features well-known legends of Argentine rock, such as Charly García, Fabiana Cantillo, Luis Alberto Spinetta and Juan Carlos Baglietto.

15- Mon Laferte, Te amo
It's a film that provides an intimate look at the tour of the Chilean artist Mon Laferte, held between 2021 and 2022, it also shows in detail her first pregnancy, the wounds of the past and how difficult it has been to reach the level where she is in the music industry.
