Barahona.- Among colors, joy and festivity, Mother's Day was proceeding normally for many families. However, in the El Cacique sector of the Palmarito neighborhood, the day turned tragic with the death of a young mother who decided to hang herself, taking her own life in the presence of her minor son.
The deceased was identified as Genara Pérez Méndez, 34 years old, mother of two children aged 14 and 4. According to information provided by her partner, the woman had already attempted suicide on a previous occasion, but a cousin of hers managed to prevent it in time.

Neighbors of the couple expressed their surprise at what happened. Stating through the media that hours earlier, the woman was seen happily sharing time at a pool hall near her residence, so they do not understand what could have motivated her decision.
The authorities are investigating the case while family members and neighbors try to come to terms with the loss.
