Santo Domingo.- Dominican authorities confirmed the arrest of Mario Abreu Lama, also known as Ramón, the main suspect in the death of teenager María Gil, 17, who was abandoned in critical condition on Avenida Ecológica and died shortly after.
The National Police spokesman, Diego Pesqueira, reported that Abreu Lama was a fugitive with a prior arrest warrant for alleged sexual assault, and was captured as part of the investigation into this new and tragic event.
According to the victim's family, the young woman was left seriously injured by Abreu Lama himself, who fled without providing assistance. It was a passerby who raised the alarm and allowed emergency services to arrive, although it was already too late to save María's life.
