Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader highlighted the cooperation with the Government of United States against human trafficking in the Dominican Republic and the commitment to the promotion of healthy tourism.
"We have collaborated with all the American agencies and the truth is that we have captured many people who are dedicated to this," expressed Abinader in a recent interview with the channel Fox News. In that sense, he indicated that the Dominican Republic is ready to firmly combat, in accordance with the law, those who enter the country for the purpose of obtaining sexual pleasures offered by unscrupulous individuals seeking economic benefits through human trafficking.One of the recent operations was developed under the name of "Operation Begonias" which was launched with multiple raids in the province of Santo Domingo, the result of an extensive investigation initiated several months ago to dismantle transnational networks of human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation and with which more than 40 women were rescued.

In the work, the Public Ministry had the support of the Special Division of Investigation of Transnational Crimes (Deidet) and the Department of Human Trafficking of the National Police. Prosecutors from the Task Force of the General Directorate of Prosecution also participated, as well as members of the PETT Investigations Department and the Victim and Witness Protection Unit of the Public Ministry. The investigation against the networks had the support of the NGO Anti Trafficking Bureau (ATB).
