Santo Domingo, DR. — The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) announced this Tuesday that between January and May 2025, it has deported more than 145,000 foreigners who were in the country in an irregular migratory condition, mostly undocumented Haitian citizens.
According to a press release issued by the entity, these people were arrested during interdiction operations carried out throughout the national territory, which have intensified following the announcement by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, that up to 10,000 irregular Haitians would be deported each week.Read more: DGM detains 1,129 and deports another 838 Haitians in irregular condition
"The actions are based on intelligence strategies to identify and apprehend people in an irregular migratory condition," explained the DGM.
The organization reiterated that it will continue with the location, detention, and repatriation operations, in compliance with Law 285-04 on migration. In addition, it assured that these processes are carried out "in strict adherence to principles of justice, equity, and respect for the rights of all."
The immigration authorities did not specify the exact number of Haitians deported nor the destination of the repatriated individuals, but confirmed that the actions will continue in a sustained manner throughout the country.
