Santo Domingo.– Merchants from Merca Santo Domingo denounced that the fire that affected one hundred percent of the sales stalls could have been avoided if the authorities had acted in time.

The vendors explained that, for months, they had been reporting irregularities without any preventive measures being taken.
“Everything that has happened here is the government's fault, for not paying attention, for the corruption and the framework that existed in the management of Merca, with the personnel, with everything,” expressed the merchant Rafael Osorio.
Furthermore, they reported that at the time the fire occurred, no authority was present at the scene.
“I got here and there was no one. The fire hadn't consumed even 50 percent yet. Where were the authorities we pay taxes to?” questioned Pablo Bizcaíno, another of the affected merchants. The vendors also expressed their concern about the millions in losses they claim to have suffered as a result of the incident, and demanded urgent answers from the authorities.
