Santo Domingo.- Judge Diana Moreno Rodríguez, of the Eighth Criminal Chamber of the National District, rejected this Wednesday a recusal filed against her by the communicator Claudina Pérez, known as "La Tora", and postponed the trial for alleged defamation and insult to June 25 at 9:00 a.m.
The decision to postpone the hearing is due to a change in legal defense by Pérez, who requested additional time to hire new lawyers. The communicator faces charges of alleged defamation and libel through electronic means, in violation of articles 21 and 22 of Law 53-07 on High Technology Crimes and Offenses. You may be interested in: Court convicts businessman for electricity fraud to the detriment of EDEEste
The legal process originated from a complaint filed by the deputy Sergio Moya, known as "Gory", who accuses Pérez of having publicly defamed him by linking him to criminal activities. In response, "La Tora" has denied the accusations and has requested the intervention of the Attorney General of the Republic, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, alleging violations of due process by Judge Moreno.
It should be remembered that on May 7th, Pérez was arrested by order of Judge Moreno after being declared in default for failing to appear at a preliminary hearing. However, the communicator argued that she was not properly notified and, subsequently, the judge lifted the arrest warrant and rescheduled the hearing for May 28th.
