Jet Set victims lawyer: “This case must be declared complex, society is waiting for justice”

Santo Domingo.– Early this Wednesday morning, lawyer Dr. Radamés Vázquez gave statements to the media before the hearing to determine the coercive measure against the accused in the Jet Set case that has shaken Dominican society. Vázquez, who represents several of the victims, warned that it is a process with profound social and judicial implications.

“I believe that today, with the number of victims there are, we are going to wait for the strategy that the magistrate is going to develop. If we focus on having each representative of the victims intervene, it's a process that will take a long time,” the jurist stated.

The lawyer expressed his support for the imposition of preventive detention as a coercive measure for both Antonio Espaillat and Maribel, who are implicated in the case.

“Of course, there must be preventive detention. Even, I would go further. I believe this case should be declared complex, due to the implication or impact it has had,” he affirmed.

Regarding who he represents in this process, Dr. Vázquez specified: “We have six lawsuits here. We represent several victims: Víctor de la Cruz, Marisol Chalas, Jaime Castro, and we have a Haitian national who passed away there, who was a doctor.” The jurist also highlighted the responsibility weighing on the court, given the national expectation generated by the case. “The entire population is waiting to see the decision that will be made from here. Society has been very restless, it has been an event that shook the deep roots of Dominican sentiment,” he concluded.
