Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, reminded the mayor of Dajabón, Santiago Riverón, that the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) is the only entity authorized by law to carry out immigration raids in Dominican territory.
The official reported that the DGM has already contacted the mayor, after he assumed functions that correspond exclusively to that agency, by carrying out operations against Haitian immigrants. She reiterated that such actions can only be carried out by the competent immigration authority.

"The Migration Directorate is already working as always in Dajabón and has been in communication with the mayor who has taken on those actions, but it must be made clear that this is an action that only concerns the General Directorate of Migration," said Raful.
Mayor Santiago Riverón, along with municipal police officers, began a series of operations last week against Haitian immigrants, whom he warned that they had a period of five days to leave the municipality.
It is recalled that Riverón went viral on social media after the dissemination of several videos in which he appears detaining Haitian minors who were wandering in a public park in Dajabón.
Minister Raful also reported that, so far in May, some 18,034 immigrants in an irregular migratory situation have been repatriated to Haiti.
