Reaffirms its commitment to the environment and the promotion of the protected areas of the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican airline Arajet reaffirms its firm commitment to environmental sustainability and the strengthening of internal tourism, through a reforestation day held in the "Ojos Indígenas" ecological reserve in Punta Cana that integrates social responsibility and the promotion of the country's natural resources. The volunteer work was received by Emy Miyazawa, Environmental Education Coordinator of the Grupo Puntacana Ecological Foundation, who received and accompanied the Arajet volunteers along with a team during the mangrove planting day on the beach.

“Felicitamos el compromiso de Arajet con el medio ambiente. Los manglares sirven de barrera natural para proteger las costas ante grandes tormentas, también albergan mucha biodiversidad desde sus raíces hasta la copa de los árboles”,

sostuvo Miyazawa.

She pointed out that each of its aircraft is named after a protected area or national ecological reserve.  “Protecting and conserving the environment has been in our DNA from the beginning. Our third aircraft is named ‘Indigenous Eyes’ and we are happy to reforest in this area,” said Lajara. Arajet indicated that the volunteer group made up of its employees, previously received an induction from Marine Environmental Education – Coastal of the Ecological Foundation of the Puntacana group, who explained the importance of mangroves for the care and preservation of the environment. The airline has launched reforestation days in various areas of the country, with the planting of emblematic trees that directly contribute to the conservation of protected areas. These initiatives not only reinforce Arajet's environmental responsibility, but also seek to positively impact the communities and ecosystems where it operates. As part of its strategy to raise awareness of the country's natural wealth, each of Arajet's aircraft is named after a Dominican protected area. These include: Pico Duarte, Isla Saona, Los Tres Ojos, Jaragua, Ojos Indígenas, Bahía de las Águilas, Los Haitises, Valle Nuevo, Lago Enriquillo and Laguna Redonda. This symbolic gesture seeks to elevate the value of the Dominican natural heritage, promoting its preservation and promotion both nationally and internationally. The Ojos Indígenas Ecological Reserve is located in Ubicada in the Puntacana Resort & Club complex, less than 10 minutes by car from the center of Punta Cana. It occupies about 600 hectares of subtropical transition forest, combining humid and dry habitats. It is managed by the Grupo Puntacana Foundation, with conservation, environmental education, and sustainable tourism objectives. In the reserve, there are more than 500 plant species, of which around 36% are endemic to the Dominican Republic. In July 2022, Arajet received its second Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, named "Indigenous Eyes", in homage to the protected area of the same name located in Punta Cana. This act marked a milestone in the airline's history and its link with the environment. With these actions, Arajet consolidates its vision of being a sustainable, efficient airline committed to promoting the natural treasures of the Dominican Republic to the world.
