Santo Domingo. – President Luis Abinader limited himself this Monday to speaking about the judicial process surrounding the collapse of the Jet Set nightclub, which left 236 fatalities and more than 180 injured on April 8th.

It is recalled that this coming Wednesday, a coercive measure will be announced against the brothers Antonio Espaillat and Maribel Espaillat. The Public Ministry has requested preventive and house arrest for the accused, respectively. According to sources from the Public Ministry, the investigation points to possible negligence in the maintenance of the premises' structure, as well as irregularities in obtaining and renewing operating permits. Technical reports, contracts with civil engineers, inspection certificates, and documentation issued by municipal and emergency agencies are being analyzed. Prosecutors are also investigating whether there were prior warnings that were ignored by the Jet Set administration, which could aggravate the indictment with charges of involuntary manslaughter, recklessness, and wanton negligence.
