Abinader calls on his party's presidential hopefuls to respect the laws

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader stated this Monday that the presidential candidates of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) "must comply" with the Party and Electoral Regime laws, as well as establish a protocol of action among them.

Abinader considered that for the latter, presidential pre-candidates must focus on a discussion beyond the laws.

"Their activities must be carried out democratically, without affecting either the Government or the party", the ruler added in his Monday press conference at the National Palace. In the PRM, there are several high-ranking leaders and officials who aspire to the presidential nomination of the ruling party for the 2028 elections. Among these are Carolina Mejía, David Collado, Tony Peña Guaba, Guido Gómez, Wellington Arnaud, and Eduardo Sanz Lovatón. "The aspirants have to comply with the laws of Parties and the Electoral Regime, that's the first thing. I also think that in the PRM they have to engage in a discussion beyond those laws to establish a protocol of action among them, so that it develops democratically, without affecting either the Government or the party," Abinader said emphatically. On the other hand, he estimated that "it is still early" to respond to the requests of several leaders of the PRM in the sense that he be proclaimed president of that organization next year. "There's a year to go for that, we'll talk later," Abinader responded to a question in question. The PRM must focus on renewing its leadership every four years.
