Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that for this Wednesday a trough will be affecting the weather conditions, generating showers, thunderstorms and wind gusts in several regions of the country.
During the morning, cloud concentrations generating scattered showers are already observed over eastern and northeastern provinces such as La Altagracia, La Romana, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, San Pedro de Macorís, Samaná and María Trinidad Sánchez, as well as in Gran Santo Domingo. These precipitations are the product of the trough located in the lower levels of the troposphere, combined with the east/southeast wind flow.

Indomet indicated that in the afternoon an intensification of these conditions is expected, with more frequent showers accompanied by electrical storms and wind gusts, mainly affecting the northeast, southeast, north, the Central Mountain Range and the border area. The provinces most prone to these phenomena are San Cristóbal, Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Azua (north zone), Espaillat and Puerto Plata.
For Thursday, a new trough, currently located over Cuba, is expected to move east/southeast, generating greater humidity and atmospheric instability. This will cause showers and thunderstorms from the early hours of the morning on the Caribbean coast, intensifying during the afternoon in provinces such as San Pedro de Macorís, San Cristóbal, Gran Santo Domingo, La Romana, La Altagracia, Monte Plata, Santiago, Azua and San Juan, among others.
The temperatures will remain hot during the day, becoming pleasant at night and early morning, especially in mountainous areas and inland valleys.
Forecast by sectors of Greater Santo Domingo:
• Distrito Nacional: Cloudy increases with scattered showers and possible thunderstorms.
• Santo Domingo Norte: Variable cloudiness with showers and possible thunderstorms.
• Santo Domingo Este: Slight cloud increases with possible isolated showers.
• Santo Domingo Oeste: Occasional cloudiness with scattered showers and possible thunderstorms.
Estimated temperatures:
• Lows between 21 °C and 23 °C
• Highs between 31 °C and 33 °C
Indomet recommends that the population stay alert to weather updates and take precautions against possible urban flooding, electrical discharges, and strong winds.
