The Vatican premieres a documentary about the missionary life of Pope Leo XIV

It will premiere simultaneously in Spanish, English, and Italian.

The Vatican will present this Friday the documentary "Lion of Peru", an intimate portrait of the almost 40 years that Pope Leo XIV, formerly known as Robert Francis Prevost, dedicated to missionary work in Peru, which will premiere through the YouTube channel of Vatican News. The film, driven by the Editorial Direction of the Dicastery for Communication of the Vatican, reviews the pastoral and social work of the current pontiff in various Peruvian locations such as Chulucanas, Trujillo, Lima, Callao and Chiclayo. Through testimonies of people who knew him closely, his mark as a priest, missionary and archbishop of Chiclayo is reconstructed.

Prevost, of American origin but also with Peruvian nationality, was elected pope on May 8th under the name of Leo XIV. The documentary highlights not only his dedication to religious service, but also his deep connection with the Peruvian people, where he developed most of his ministerial life. In addition to the premiere on YouTube, "Lion of Peru" will be distributed by other international media as part of the Vatican's effort to share the spiritual and human legacy of the current successor of Peter.
