Santo Domingo.- This Sunday, June 1st, marks the official start of the 2025 hurricane season for the North Atlantic, the Gulf of America (formerly the Gulf of Mexico), and the Caribbean Area, which will extend until November 30th. According to the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), this season could be above normal, which increases the level of vigilance and preparation throughout the region.

Despite the beginning of this critical period, current weather conditions will remain stable in a large part of the country, although affected by the arrival of Saharan dust, which will cause an opaque and grayish sky, as well as low probabilities of significant rainfall. Only isolated showers are expected at the end of the afternoon in specific areas such as the northeast, southeast, and the Central mountain range, including provinces such as Monte Cristi, Dajabón, Santiago Rodríguez, and Valverde.

For this Monday, the outlook will remain without significant changes. The combination of an anticyclonic circulation and a greater influx of Saharan dust will continue to limit cloud formation. The environment will remain sunny, hazy, and hot, with little cloud cover and some very isolated showers in the northeast zone and the border area.

INDOMET urges the population and authorities to stay informed and to start taking preventive measures now, as the high activity predicted for this season represents a potential risk of storms and hurricanes in the region.
