Santo Domingo. – The president of the Republic, Luis Abinader, stated this Monday that the Organic Law Project on Freedom of Expression and Audiovisual Media was not drafted by the Executive Branch, but rather emerged from a consensus process among various sectors of society, as had been previously requested.
"I agree with the consensus. Remember that we were going to send a bill, but we were asked to reach a consensus, and we authorized it to go to Congress," the president explained.

Likewise, he emphasized that the content of the project was not worked on by the Executive, but was built with the participation of multiple social and professional sectors.
Abinader indicated that now the National Congress must continue with that process of concertation, evaluating and discussing the legislative proposal, which has generated debates around its implications for freedom of the press and the practice of journalism.
The Head of State reiterated that the Government supports dialogue and the search for agreements, and that it will respect the institutional course of the project within the Legislative Branch.
