Residents of Cristo Rey denounce police abuse during operation in colmado

Distrito Nacional.– Residents of the Cristo Rey sector, specifically on Pablo VI street, expressed their outrage after an incident that occurred on Sunday afternoon, when agents of the National Police broke into the Apolinar colmado to seize some speakers, generating an altercation with the community.

The incident was recorded around 4:00 p.m. and, according to residents, as well as evidenced in several audiovisual materials, the police action provoked the reaction of the neighbors, who questioned the procedure. In response, the officers allegedly assaulted some of those present and threw tear gas in the middle of the public road.

The action affected women, children, and people who were inside their homes, generating an atmosphere of panic and tension throughout the area. In the images, residents are seen trying to take shelter from the smoke while protesting the disproportionate use of force by the uniformed officers.

El colmado Apolinar es conocido en la comunidad por ser un espacio familiar y tranquilo, lo que incrementó la indignación de los ciudadanos ante la forma en que se desarrolló el operativo.

So far, the authorities have not offered an official version of the event.
